Twenty-one-year-old Naomie Nishimwe was on Saturday crowned Miss Rwanda 2020 despite tough competition from 19 finalists.

The event took place at the Intare Conference Arena on the outskirts of Kigali, the country’s capital.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine to be in this position, never did I think of myself to be worthy of such an honour. But the fact that I’ve been chosen has proven me wrong, honestly,” said Nishimwe.

She said she could feel the “good vibes and positive energy” following her crowning, and was excited to start on her journey as the title holder.

“Thank you for the happiness, thank you for the tears, thank you for the hugs, thank you for the love, messages, calls, post, voted,” senior-six graduate Nishimwe said.

She represented Kigali during the preliminaries and took over the crown from Miss Rwanda 2019, Meghan Nimwiza.
