Thanks to the R&B singer Elaine, the ‘sad girl season’ has officially started.

The 22-year-old South African musician released her latest single which comes almost two years after she dropped her debut EP Elements back in 2019.

The moody new song is titled ’Right Now’ and it dropped with a music video that was directed by the talented Nape Phasha.

In the video, Elaine is seen living her best life while she’s learning to put herself and her music first after being frustrated with a lover.

“This song is exactly what it means and feels like to welcome growth, celebrate being a confident woman and find comfort in independence,” said Elaine.

“When making this song, I remember walking up to the mic with a lot of things I was carrying in my heart but had trouble communicating and relaying to others. After I recorded it, things changed for me. The concept of love transformed from being a good lover to someone, to being a good lover to myself too,” she added.

The single has been featured on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music radio show New Music Daily alongside a FaceTime interview with the songstress.

Not long after the song released, people on Twitter started celebrating the start of sad girl season (not an actual season).

One user wrote, “Bathong Elaine has me in my feels and I’m not even gowishing so I’m confused,” which loosely translates to, “Wow Elaine has me in my feelings and I’m not even going through anything so I’m confused.”

Other users expressed how relatable the song was to them.
